About Us

Formed in June 2007, the Association des Sociétés de développement commercial de Montréal brings together 14 SDCs totalling more than 14,000 businesses and commercial establishments. It is the largest business association in the Greater Montréal area.

Montréal’s 14 SDCs represent business communities of 12 commercial streets and two commercial districts (Vieux-Montréal and Destination Centre-Ville), which inject close to $10 million of private funds annually into the promotion and development of local commerce through their respective SDCs. They are present today in eight boroughs.

The ASDCM’s mission is to promote the emergence and growth of SDCs. Recognized for their vitality, SDCs represent a winning formula for neighbourhood development and empowerment in all urban centres, large and small, which has demonstrated its value through many successful innovative projects and concrete beneficial results for community life.

Montréal’s SDCs provide local expertise and offer strategies adapted to the specific character of each district, thus helping enhance the neighbourhood’s quality of life, promote citizens’ self-identification with their district and support economic, cultural and social development.

Another goal of the ASDCM is to work in co-operation with the various urban development stakeholders. It therefore plans to introduce tools to better define the factors contributing to Montréal’s economic, social and cultural development.

The organization of the 1st conference on the vitality of local commerce is one example of the activities supported by the Association.

We hope this initiative will be followed up by other opportunities to strengthen neighbourhood business, an increasingly important trend in the world’s largest cities.
